Pediatric Mental Health Counseling

Trauma- Informed. Evidence- Based. Always Child-Centered.

Parents, we understand

  • When your child or teen is struggling, it affects everything—home life, school, relationships, and your own sense of stability as a parent. Whether you're seeing emotional outbursts, school refusal, anxiety, shutdowns, or something you can’t quite name yet, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

At Modern Youth, we specialize in uncovering the root cause of emotional and behavioral challenges. We don’t just manage symptoms—we get curious about what’s driving them. Our trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming therapists provide developmentally aligned care that’s tailored to your child’s needs and supported by you every step of the way.

From toddlers to teens, we create a safe, collaborative, and creative space for healing—and we equip caregivers with the tools and insight to support long-term growth.

How We Work

At Modern Youth our clinicians bring both deep clinical training and a developmentally attuned, strengths-based perspective to every session. We use a variety of therapeutic approaches—always customized to fit your child’s personality, needs, and goals.

Therapeutic approaches may include:

  • Play Therapy & Expressive Arts Therapy – supporting emotional processing through creativity, movement, and symbolic expression

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – addressing patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – building emotion regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness skills

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Gestalt-Inspired Work – helping children and teens understand and integrate their inner emotional parts

  • Somatic & Mindfulness Techniques – supporting body-based awareness and emotional grounding

  • Family Systems & Attachment-Based Therapy – strengthening relationships and addressing intergenerational dynamics

Whether we're building emotional literacy through play, helping a teen process grief with art, or teaching coping strategies through CBT, our work is grounded in empathy, expertise, and connection.

Child Therapy

Ages 2-12

When young children are struggling, they often show it through behavior—not words. Meltdowns, anxiety, school refusal, or withdrawal are signs that something deeper may be going on. We help children feel safe, express emotions, and build the tools they need to navigate life with more confidence. Our therapists use play therapy and expressive art therapy—research-backed methods that support emotional processing in a developmentally appropriate way. In session, children explore feelings through storytelling, movement, art, and imaginative play. We also work closely with caregivers, offering regular communication and support—so your child’s growth is reinforced at home, too.

Teen Therapy

Ages 12-18

Adolescence brings rapid emotional, social, and neurological change. Teens are forming their identity, seeking independence, and navigating new responsibilities—all while dealing with academic stress, peer dynamics, and the constant pressure of digital life. It's no surprise that this can lead to anxiety, low mood, shutdowns, irritability, or conflict at home. At Modern Youth, we support teens facing challenges like emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety, identity exploration, perfectionism, and social stress. Therapy gives them space to process what they’re feeling, make sense of their experiences, and build the tools they need to manage emotions, relationships, and self-expectations more effectively.

Our therapists approach teens with respect, curiosity, and clinical skill—helping them feel understood, supported, and more in control of their internal world.
