Perinatal Counseling
What is Perinatal Counseling?
Perinatal counseling is specialized mental health support for people navigating the emotional changes that come with trying to conceive, pregnancy, postpartum, and the first year of parenting. This stage of life can bring joy, but it can also stir up anxiety, mood changes, identity shifts, relationship stress, and sometimes grief or trauma. At Modern Youth our perinatal therapists are trained to address these unique challenges through compassionate, evidence-based care that helps you process your experiences, manage difficult emotions, and adjust to your new role with more confidence and stability. Perinatal counseling is for anyone in the family-building journey—including birthing parents, partners, adoptive parents, and those facing fertility challenges or pregnancy loss.
How Do You Know If You Might Need It?
Many parents assume what they're feeling is just part of the process—but persistent emotional distress, overwhelm, or disconnection is not something you have to face alone.
Perinatal counseling may be helpful if you are experiencing:
Anxiety, panic, or racing thoughts
Depression or tearfulness that won’t lift
Feeling numb, disconnected, or "not like yourself"
Irritability, anger, or emotional reactivity
Guilt, shame, or fears about parenting
Grief after miscarriage, loss, or infertility
Difficulty bonding with your baby
Relationship stress or identity shifts
Birth trauma or distressing medical experiences
